General Tech '11 - So. Utah

The 2011 Southern Utah “General Tech" Concept to Company Contest was the ninth C2C competition and was a great success. It took place from February to May 2011. The focus of the contest was on innovations that involve general technology at the core of their process.

Over 50 well-qualified applicants applied to the contest and of those, seven finalists were chosen. The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges on May 13th at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah. At the conclusion of the judging, three winners were chosen and prizes awarded. The Grand Prize winner received $10,000 in cash from SEED Dixie (via an anonymous donor) and $12,500 in services from USTAR, Durham/Jones/Pinegar Law, OverActDev Web Development, and Savage/Esplin/Radmall Accounting. The Runners-Up received $5,000 in cash and $6,250 in services from the same. The three winners and their ideas, along with a press release, are listed below.

RotoBit Technology invented a drill bit that allows drill rig operators to rotate individual cutter surfaces while the bit is thousands of feet down hole. This eliminates the need for retracting a bit in order to replace broken or worn cutters. It will save the oil/gas drilling industry millions of dollars on drill bits and save thousands of hours.

As the Grand Prize Winner RotoBit was awarded $10,000 in cash and $12,500 in services to take their product to market.




Cumulus has developed a cloud based document management system that's designed to easily scale up or down to customer size and budget. It allows home users or large businesses to store, sort, harvest, index and aggregate analog data in an intuitive & useful way.

As the Runner-Up Winner Cumulus was awarded $5,000 in cash and $6,250 in services to take their product to market.




The LT Master by Quantum Ingenuities accurately and simultaneously tests each of the circuits in connected trailer and truck wiring. It's unique processor can detect problems such as loose connections or misrouted wiring from semi-trucks to personal trailers.

As the Runner-Up Winner was awarded $5,000 in cash and $6,250 in services to take their product to market.
