Medical '09

The Salt Lake Concept to Company Contest was the third C2C competition and was a great success. It took place from March to May 2009. The focus of the contest was on medical devices and technology which is fast becoming a strong innovation cluster in Utah. The contest was open to anyone across the state however most applicants were from the Salt Lake area.

Over 55 applicants applied to the contest and of those, eight finalists were chosen. The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges on May 6th at the Miller Bussiness Resource Center in Sandy. After the judges deliberation, the winners were announced later that day at an awards ceremony. As in the past, the Grand Prize winner recieved $10,000 in cash from Zions Bank/Grow Utah Ventures and $10,000 in services from UTSTAR & CFO Solutions. The Runners-Up recieved $5000 in cash and $5000 in services from the same. The three winners and their ideas, along with a press release, are listed below.

Winners



Invectus BioMedical won the Salt Lake Concept to Company Grand Prize with their Daisy Clip innovation. The Daisy-Clip is a non-surgical permanent contraception device for women. It blocks the fallopian tube, thus immediately and permanently preventing fertilization. It will be used throughout the world specifically targeting the underinsured and underprivileged.

As the Grand Prize Winner Invectus was awarded $10,000 in cash and $10,000 in services to take their product to market.

OtoKinetics Inc was chosen as one of the Runners-up in the Concept to Company contest. Their innovation is a surgically implanted invisible hearing device with extraordinary acoustic performance allowing hearing impaired persons to hear the same as individuals with normal hearing. As a runner-up, Otokinetics received $5000 in cash $5000 in services to start their business.




Fresh Medical Laboratories was awarded as a runner-up for the Salt Lake Company Contest. Their innovation is the TBB Scanner which is a non-invasive investigational device used to detect lung cancer in patients who are symptomatic, but who have not yet been diagnosed. As a Runner-Up, Fresh Medical Laboratories won $5000 in cash and $5000 in services to take their product to market.
