
The 2009 Outdoor Recreation Concept to Company Contest was the fifth C2C competition and was a huge success. It took place from September to October 2009. The focus of the contest was on innovative outdoor recreation products and services.
Over 65 quality applicants applied to the contest and of those, nine finalists were chosen (click here to see the finalists). The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges on October 30th at the Weber State Lindquist Alumni Center. After the judges deliberation, the winners were announced later that day at the awards ceremony. The Grand Prize winner recieved $10,000 in cash from Zions Bank/Grow Utah Ventures and $25,000 in services from UTSTAR, CFO Solutions, Ballard Spahr, & Workman Nydegger. The Runners-Up recieved $5,000 in cash and $17,000 in services from the same. The three winners and their ideas, along with a press release, are listed below.

Infinity Pedals by Sam Hunter was the grand prize winner of the Outdoor Rec '09 contest. Sam's biking passion led him to create a new type of clipless bike pedal. His unique pedal & shoe clip features a 360 degree entry point which takes the complexity out of technical entry and exit situations and reduces overall weight. He presented a working prototype to the judges and will now use the winnings to further hone it and prepare it for market. It has the potential to make a big impact on the sport of biking.
As the Grand Prize Winner Infinity Pedals was awarded $10,000 in cash and $27,500 in services to take their product to market.
The MFD Roslyn by Multifacetid Design, Inc. was one of the runner-up's in the C2C Outdoor Rec' 09 contest. The MFD Roslyn is a unique ski binding adaptor which allows skiers to use existing alpine downhill ski bindings as alpine touring bindings. This will give skiers greater flexibility to "cross-country" ski into the backcountry areas without having to switching skis or boots. It also allows them to then ski down backcountry areas using their standard downhill binding instead of an inferior Alpine Touring binding.
As a Runner-Up Winner, Multifacetid Design was awarded $5,000 in cash and $12,500 in services to take their product to market.
Other Planet Skate Trucks by C.M.W. Products was one the other runner-up in the C2C Outdoor Rec' 09 contest. C.M.W. has developed a completely unique longboard truck for skateboards. These trucks featue downhill geometry and massive deck-tips which allows riders to make deep slalom turns with confidence and control at any speed.
